We value the relationships we’ve developed with all and work closely with them to come up with the best, most appealing and saleable product possible.

I used that line when trying to explain to college friends what it is I do. It is explanatory, if overly simple, but doesn’t begin to cover the talent, effort and skill that goes into the creation of successful licensed product. Still, it illustrates how just about anything with a surface to which an image can be applied is a candidate: wall décor, rugs, wallpaper, ceramics, even the Painted sink by Joelle McIntyre...

I have been in this business since 1994 when I was given the opportunity, the gift, really, of starting a licensing division for a fine art publishing company. It was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed a high level of success. Blue Sky Art & Design began in 2005. I consider myself extremely lucky to have the second-best job there is, a decided lack of artistic ability disqualifying me from the first. I have often said that I’m an agent because I can’t draw and I didn’t go to law school, but the truth is, I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of my work, from coming up with image and product ideas with the artists to promoting the work to manufacturers, to seeing the end result. It’s extremely satisfying. There’s a strong sense of ‘we’re all in it together—artist, licensee and agent’, since, if a program is successful for one, it’s by definition successful for all.
